California Organic Fertilizers, Inc.™ (COFI™) has developed a Soil Food Web
Program™ for growers using COFI™ fertilizer products. Please feel free to contact us for further information on this exciting and innovative program.
All farming practices affect the Soil Food Web. Our Soil Food Web Program™ takes into consideration a long list of production variables including plant variety, irrigation methods, tillage, season, geography and fertilization. The COFI™ Soil Food Web Program™ evaluates these variables when assessing the crop, both above and below ground. Soil samples are sent to both a chemical lab and biological lab for assessment. Later, during the growing cycle, plant samples are again tested and infrared thermal photography is employed to gain further feedback.
Since fertilization has a major impact on the Soil Food Web, COFI™ is developing a Food Web Rating™ (FWR™) for all of our products using an upper and lower baseline to determine effectiveness of the product. The FWR™ takes into consideration biological and chemical aspects of the product. COFI™ is conducting biological growth tests as well as chemical analysis of each product in order to determine the impact on the soil micro-organisms and the Soil Food Web as a whole.
Based upon the FWR™ and the production variables, a unique and complete Soil Food Web Program™ is designed. Since not all crops are grown under optimum growing conditions, a combination of nutrient inputs, along with various Food Web Ratings™, will be necessary to produce the desired quality crop AND provide the best Soil Food Web management for the farm.
